The preparatory hearing has commenced today of the criminal cases of the Azerbaijani former minister for economic development, Farhad Aliyev, the president of Azpetrol company, Rafik Aliyev and 17 others.

At the beginning of hearings, Isakhan Ashurov, the former minister"s lawyer, raised a petition to replace the existing three judges, Judge Tofig Pashayev, and his two assistants Alisultan Osmanov, Vagif Mursagulov. The judges left the court to discuss the petition.

During the preliminary hearing of criminal cases against Azerbaijani former Minister for Economic Development, Farhad Aliyev, the President of Azpetrol, Rafik Aliyev and 17 others, a request of the ex-minister"s advocate was not guaranteed. Farhad Aliyev, his brother, the former President of the Group of Companies Azpetrol, Rafig Aliyev and 17 others are accused of contravening Articles 179.3.1, 179.3.2 (appropriation), Articles 192.1, 192.2 (illegal entrepreneurship), Articles 206.4 (contraband), Articles 213.4 (avoidance of tax payment), Articles 308.2 (misuse of authorities), Articles 311.3.1, 311.2, 311.3.3 (accepting bribes) and Articles 313 (service falsification) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
