President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here on Thursday that Iran is ready to have growing ties and cooperation with Azerbaijan as there are extensive potential available for the purpose.

Ahmadinejad told Azeri foreign minister Elmar Mammadyarov that Iran does not consider any limit for sharing its valuable experience with the republic of Azerbaijan.

He said regional states should expand mutual cooperation in line with interests of their nations.

"Progress and strength of any country in the region would benefit its and other regional nations," he added.

Mammadyarov said for his part Baku wants to use Iran's precious experience in different fields, including energy, culture and power plant construction as well as widening the north-south corridor.

Bin Laden may have arranged family's US exit: FBI docs

Osama bin Laden may have chartered a plane that carried his family members and Saudi nationals out of the United States after the September 11, 2001 attacks, said FBI documents released Wednesday.

The papers, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, were made public by Judicial Watch, a Washington-based group that investigates government corruption.

One FBI document referred to a Ryan Air 727 airplane that departed Los Angeles International Airport on September 19, 2001, and was said to have carried Saudi nationals out of the United States.

"The plane was chartered either by the Saudi Arabian royal family or Osama bin Laden," according to the document, which was among 224 pages posted online.

The flight made stops in Orlando, Florida; Washington, DC; and Boston, Massachusetts and eventually left its passengers in Paris the following day.

In all, the documents detail six flights between September 14 and September 24 that evacuated Saudi nationals and bin Laden family members, Judicial Watch said in a statement.

"Incredibly, not a single Saudi national nor any of the bin Laden family members possessed any information of investigative value," Judicial Watch said.

"These documents contain numerous errors and inconsistencies which call to question the thoroughness of the FBI's investigation of the Saudi flights.

"For example, on one document, the FBI claims to have interviewed 20 of 23 passengers on the Ryan International Airlines flight ... on another document the FBI claims to have interviewed 15 to 22 passengers on the same flight."

Asked about the documents' assertion that either bin Laden or the Saudi royals ordered the flight, an FBI spokesman said the information was inaccurate.

"There is no new information here. Osama bin Laden did not charter a flight out of the US," FBI special agent Richard Kolko said.

"This is just an inflammatory headline by Judicial Watch to catch people's attention. This was thoroughly investigated by the FBI."

Kolko pointed to the 9-11 Commission Report, which was the book-length result of an official probe into the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington that killed nearly 3,000 people.

"No political intervention was found. And most important, the FBI conducted a satisfactory screening of Saudi nationals that left on chartered flights. This is all available in the report," Kolko said.

On the issue of flights of Saudi nationals leaving the United States, the 9-11 report said: "We found no evidence of political intervention" to facilitate the departure of Saudi nationals.

The commission also said: "Our own independent review of the Saudi nationals involved confirms that no one with known links to terrorism departed on these flights."

Meredith Diliberto, an attorney with Judicial Watch, said that her group had seen a first version of the documents in 2005, although the FBI had heavily redacted the texts to black out names, including all references to bin Laden.

Nevertheless, unedited footnotes in the texts allowed lawyers to determine that bin Laden's name had been redacted. They pressed the issue in court and in November 2006, the FBI was ordered to re-release the documents.

Diliberto said mention that "either" bin Laden or Saudi royals had chartered the flight "really threw us for a loop."

"When you combine that with some of the family members not being interviewed, we found it very disturbing."

Paris Hilton says in an interview from jail she's a changed woman who now appreciates "things I took for granted" and plans to use her fame "in a good way."

"I'm so much more grateful for everything that I have, even just to have a pillow at night or food," Hilton told E! News's Ryan Seacrest in a phone conversation from Century Regional Correctional Facility.

Hilton, who is scheduled to be released next week, says she plans to use her celebrity for good – and doesn't want to be the object of ridicule anymore.

"You know my gratitude has gone up so much and I just realize that the media used me to make fun of and be mean about it," she tells Seacrest in the interview for Thursday's show. "Frankly [I'm] sick of it and I want to use my fame in a good way."

Of her life behind bars, Hilton, who was jailed for violating probation for driving with a suspended license, says it's been difficult being kept from her family. "I am behind glass and I want to give my dad a big hug and they won't even let me do that."

She also insists that she is not receiving any special treatment in jail. "That's how the rules are, you have to be behind glass," she said. "I'm not a criminal, I'm not dangerous, so it makes me feel like that. It's hard but I'm stronger everyday."

As for the future, Hilton says: "I just can't wait to see my family and have a nice meal and be in my own bed and appreciate all the things I took for granted and never really thought much about."

The 25-year-old pop star completed a monthlong stay at a luxury Malibu, Calif., rehabilitation treatment facility in March after attracting an onslaught of media attention for wild behavior that included partying with Paris Hilton and a stop at a San Fernando Valley hair salon, where she shaved her own head.

Britney Spears, who reached a divorce settlement with aspiring rapper Kevin Federline in March, recently posted a message on her Web site saying she had been acting like a "bad kid running around with ADD (attention deficit disorder)."

The singer filed for divorce from Federline in November, just two months after giving birth to the couple's second child, Jayden James. Their older son, Sean Preston, was born in September 2005.

"Everything is going to be good," Lynne Spears tells the magazine. "Everything is going to be really good. I can see her life picking up and it's just going to hold great things for her."

NBC truncates Posh Spice reality show

Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham's upcoming NBC reality series will instead run as an hour-long special, the network said Wednesday .

"Victoria Beckham: Coming to America" will air at 8 p.m. July 16. As the title suggests, it will focus on Posh Spice's relocation to Los Angeles from London with her husband, football star David Beckham.

NBC announced the project as a six-episode series in February. But there was recent speculation in the British media about problems on the show once David Beckham was recalled to play with the English national team late last month. He is set to play with Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy after his contract with Real Madrid expires June 30.

If the NBC special is a success, it's believed that it could lead to more specials or a series.

Reports that President George W. Bush had his wristwatch stolen while shaking hands with Albanians on his weekend visit are false, Albanian police and the U.S. embassy said Tuesday.

"The story is untrue and the president did not lose his watch," a spokesman for the embassy in Tirana said.

Some newspapers, television stations and websites carried reports that Bush's watch vanished Sunday when he was greeted by ecstatic crowds in Fushe Kruje, outside the capital Tirana.

"It is not true," said Albania's police director, Ahmet Prenci.

Photographs showed Bush, surrounded by five bodyguards, putting his hands behind his back so one of the bodyguards could remove his watch.

Californian political analyst: U.S. needs friends like Azerbaijan

There is not a large Azerbaijani community in California and that it is very difficult to promote Azerbaijan here. But, working hard on behalf of Azerbaijan in this region is of the utmost importance. California is the 7th largest economy in the world, political analyst Jason Katz told the APA’s US bureau.

He reminded that Los Angeles, alone, is the 9th largest economy in the world.
“California is also a very significant concentration of American political power. It is imperative that Azerbaijan maintain a presence in California and continually enhance that presence. The opportunities to build close business and political relationships have the potential to be very helpful to Azerbaijan economically and even in terms of bilateral relationship with the U.S,” he said.
Mr.Katz also stated that other Diasporas like Jewish, Spanish, Russian, Turkish can cooperate with Azerbaijani community.
“Because California has such a rich diversity of people, in terms of nationality, ethnicity, religion, etc., Azerbaijanis are well accepted. They are not looked upon as outsiders. Other Diasporas are very helpful in the promotion of Azerbaijan and furthering her relationship with the U.S. The Jewish community, in particular, is helpful to Azerbaijan. The fact that Azerbaijan is a secular Muslim nation who has diplomatic relations with Israel and also has a 2,500 year old Jewish community makes for an easy and close relationship. I met the Consul General in Los Angeles, Elin Suleymanov, through the Israeli Ambassador to Azerbaijan,” he said.
The Californian analytic also replied to the question regarding the people in the executive and legislative branches of power in California do not want to work with Azerbaijanis.
“It is true that there are those in the executive and Legislative branches of California and U.S. Federal government who do not respond well to Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, Americans can sometimes have a dim and incorrect view of Muslims. This is sometimes learned from incomplete news reporting and on occasion learned from other ethnic groups.
However, I have seen it time and again that once Americans get to know Azerbaijanis, they begin to see real synergy between the two peoples and many common goals. The reality is that there are many similarities between the two nations. I saw that very clearly when I was in Baku last week. Baku is an increasingly modern and cosmopolitan city, full of people who are Western in dress and conduct and friendly. I am a Jew and I walked the streets of this Muslim nation and feel completely at home,” he said.
Katz reminding that 4 Azeri NGOs are operating in all California stated that he regard necessity of being united under one umbrella.
“I do think that the NGO’s should rally around one banner. I believe that it would have the virtue of bringing more influence to “the table’ at one time. I also believe that one of the main goals of the NGOs should be business development and political activity. I know that two of the Consulate’s major focuses are relationships with elected officials and business leaders. The NGOs working under one umbrella, coupled with the significant foot print the Consulate has already established would enhance the profile of Azerbaijan in great measure. My advice to the Azerbaijani Diaspora community as they begin to build a structure is too be involved in the greater community, politics and policy of their respective city, state or region. I would also strongly suggest that these leaders study other successful organized communities. The Jewish community for instance has a vast communal structure. In Greater Los Angeles alone, there is a Jewish organization for nearly everything - the Anti Defamation League is the Jewish leader in community relations and government relations - the Jewish Federation helps to raise funds to run a vast network of social service organizations and the American Jewish Committee does research into a myriad of important issues and promotes democratic values all over the world,” he said.
The analyst also spoke about the impression he got in Azerbaijan.
“The purpose of my trip to Azerbaijan was to attend the Tolerance in the Media Conference and for various meetings with government officials. I must say that it was a fascinating experience. The people of Azerbaijan are warn, friendly and good people.
I was struck by Baku and its vibrancy. The amount of building taking place is wonderfully staggering. Recently, I had a conversation with an American elected official who commented that one can gauge the heath and well being of a city by how many construction cranes one sees. If that is an indication, Azerbaijan is, indeed, healthy.
I was also struck by the fact that Azerbaijan is taking such a leadership role in the region by helping its neighbors, moderating disagreements, etc. I also saw an oil rich nation whose people at the bottom rung of society benefit from the oil revenue, too. I met with many Ministers and MPs and was repeatedly impressed with their dedication to their country and countrymen. From an American’s point of view, Azerbaijan should continue to enhance her relationship with the U.S. and to make a concerted effort to grow closer politically, economically and diplomatically. The U.S. needs friends like Azerbaijan,” he underlined.

Journalist Ufuk Güldemir passes away

Journalist Ufuk Güldemir, founder of the Habertürk news network, has lost his fight against cancer.

The media world and Habertürk, where he was the head of the executive board in addition to being its founder, were in mourning on Sunday after Güldemir, 50, lost his more than year-long battle against cancer early on Sunday morning. Media members and his friends will say their last goodbyes to Güldemir tomorrow, June 12, following a ceremony at Habertürk headquarters in the morning. His funeral service will be held at the Teşvikiye Mosque after the ceremony. Güldemir will be laid to rest in İstanbul’s Zincirlikuyu Cemetery.

Born in the eastern city of Elazığ in 1956, Ufuk Güldemir started his career as a photojournalist in the Başkent and Son Havadis newspapers. Later he worked as a parliamentary correspondent for the Dünya daily and as a diplomacy correspondent for the Turkish news agency and the Cumhuriyet newspaper. In 1987 he was assigned as the Washington bureau chief of the Cumhuriyet daily, where he established a solid reputation with a number of key stories. In 1992 he returned to Turkey and started working as the news director at the Star Television channel. Güldemir worked as the head of the news department of Show TV and later as the editor in chief of the Milliyet and Sabah dailies.

In 1999, he set up Haberturk.com, which was at the time Turkey’s first internet news portal. In 2001, he founded the Habertürk TV station and a radio station as part of the same network. Güldemir was the holder of an honorary press card and was also a many-time recipient of a great number of national and international journalism awards.

MySpace page may have been suspect's

OLATHE, Kan. - He calls himself "Jack" and considers himself a "Sweet Troubled Soul" on his MySpace page.

His interests include "eating small children and harming small animals."The page appears to belong to Edwin R. Hall, the man accused of kidnapping 18-year-old Kelsey Smith and killing her, lending disturbing significance to the bizarre claims in light of the charges against him.

Hall was charged Thursday with premeditated first-degree murder in Smith's death and aggravated kidnapping for her abduction Saturday from a Target store parking lot. His bond was set at $5 million.

Only the name "Jack," which Hall is known by to neighbors, is used on the MySpace page, and the picture posted strongly resembles the 26-year-old. The person on the MySpace page also uses the same age and location as Hall, and a person with the same name as his wife, Aletha, has a page linked to "Jack's."

In a photo on the page, the man is posing with a young boy. Neighbors said Hall and his wife have a 4-year-old son.

It was Hall's neighbors who told police he resembled the man they were looking for.

Cameron Migues, 30, said he and his wife laughed when they noticed a similarity between Hall and the man pictured in a surveillance video that police were using to solicit leads in the abduction. But then a video of the truck was released, and "we put two and two together," said Migues, who called a police hot line Wednesday morning.

Hall was being held at the Johnson County jail and appeared in court via a video feed looking tired and downcast. He spoke briefly, waiving reading of the charges until he could hire his own attorney. His next appearance was scheduled for June 14.

If convicted, he faces a minimum sentence of 25 years to life in prison for the murder charge and more than 12 years for aggravated kidnapping, Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline said.

Kline said it was unclear whether the case would be tried in state or federal court but that the death penalty would be possible either way.

It is a federal offense to cross state lines while committing a kidnapping resulting in a death. Authorities have not said how or where Smith was killed.

"If we believe the crime is severe enough, and we do in this case, we will go to the jurisdiction that provides the most severe penalty," Kline said. "The discussions continue almost around the clock."

Detectives talked to Hall shortly after Smith's body was found Wednesday in a wooded area in Missouri.

Authorities have declined to offer a motive but say there is no evidence that Smith and Hall knew each other.

Neighbor Harold Barry, 50, said he was surprised when he heard Hall had been arrested. Hall recently helped him repair his pickup truck, he said.

"If I can go see him, I will see if I can help him out," said Barry, who added that Hall seemed especially close to his son.

"He loved his son his so much," Barry said. "He had his small kid in that truck every time I saw him."

Smith had been missing since Saturday night, when she went to a Target store in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park to buy a gift for her boyfriend.

Surveillance video showed her being forced into her car around 7:10 p.m., and the car drove off. It was found in a nearby mall parking lot about two hours later.

Azerbaijan ready to discuss radar use with Russia, US: diplomat

Baku (Azerbaijan), June 8 (RIA Novosti) Azerbaijan has said it is willing to hold bilateral and multilateral talks with Russia and the United States on the joint use of a radar installation in the country, a Russian diplomat said.

During a meeting with President George W. Bush at a Group of Eight (G8) summit in Germany, Russian President Vladimir Putin offered the US, a joint use of a radar installation in Azerbaijan in an apparent attempt to ease tensions sparked by Washington's missile shield plans.

A White House adviser called the Russian proposal a 'bold' and 'interesting' move, and promised to thoroughly study the initiative.

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov said Azerbaijan is currently holding consultations both with Russia and the US on the joint use of the Gabala radar in the north of the country.

In particular, the diplomat said the issue was a subject of discussion at a meeting between the South Caucasus nation's foreign minister, Elmar Mamedyarov, and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov last week in Baku.

The Gabala radar station, which Russia leases from Azerbaijan, is the most powerful in the region. It has a range of about 6,000 km (3,700 miles) and enables Russia's Space Forces to monitor launches of intercontinental ballistic and other missiles in Asia and parts of Africa.

The radar was leased to Russia for 10 years in 2002. It is an early warning system capable of tracing ballistic missiles and other flying objects with high accuracy. The station, Russia's only military facility in Azerbaijan, plays a significant role in the Russian air defence system.

Azerbaijan confirmed in January it would not revise the terms of the agreement, despite speculations following Russia's move to hike the natural gas export price for the country.

Putin said after a meeting with Bush that he discussed the radar issue with the Azeri President Ilham Aliyev in a telephone conversation Wednesday.

'The current agreement allows us to do it [jointly use the radar],' the Russian leader said.

Russian experts believe that the joint use of the Gabala radar would be beneficial for all parties concerned as it covers all potential missile threats coming from Asia, and could eliminate the need to place missile defence radars in Europe, including in the Czech Republic.

Azerbaijan: Let's talk on missile system

Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said Friday that Azerbaijan is ready to consider proposed joint U.S.-Russian use of a radar facility in the country as part of a missile defense system.

Russian President Vladimir Putin made the proposal Thursday to President Bush as an alternative to U.S. plans to deploy missile-defense elements in Eastern European countries, a plan to which Russia bitterly objects.

"At this time, Azerbaijan's position, which is supported by the United States and Russia, is that it's necessary to start consultations in a two- or three-sided format. I can say that Azerbaijan is ready for such consultations," the foreign minister said at a briefing.

Azerbaijan is a former Soviet republic along the Caspian Sea that borders Russia and Iran.

The United States says the missile defense elements that it wants to place in Poland and the Czech Republic are aimed at intercepting possible missile attacks from Iran and North Korea.

Putin contends that putting the system in Eastern Europe would mean it could be used against Russia's missiles, thereby undermining the balance of power in Europe.

Putin said last week that Russia would aim its missiles at Europe for the first time since the end of the Cold War if the U.S. plan goes ahead.

Russia already uses the radar station in Azerbaijan.

With the world's second-largest Shiite Muslim population, secular Azerbaijan has concerns that Iran's Shiite theocracy could spread and some analysts suggested that Iran would be angered by U.S. use of the radar facility.

But Mammadyarov said the proposal "can only bring more stability into the region because it can lead to more predictable actions in the region."

In Brussels, NATO's top diplomat gave a cautious response Friday to Putin's suggestion that part of the proposed for U.S. anti-missile defense system be based in Azerbaijan.

"It's a bit early to judge if an Azeri radar could be the answer to the threat," said Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. "It's a bit close to the rogue states we are discussing."

Despite his caution, de Hoop Scheffer welcomed the talks between Bush and Putin at the G-8 summit in northern Germany, which diplomats say marked a thaw in relations after weeks of mounting tension of the missile defense shield, which led to Putin threatening to point Russian warheads at Europe for the first time since the Cold War.

"That they talk to each other is good," he told a conference organized by the Security and Defense Agenda, a Brussels-based think tank.

All prisoners entering California's Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood are subjected to a full strip and invasive search upon arrival and the hotel heiress was no exception, according to gossip website TMZ.com.

It had been previously claimed Paris would not undergo the search for contraband items.
But an inside source said: "Paris was told to spread 'em just like everyone else."
It is not known if anything was found on her person.
The 26-year-old blonde has spent her third night in solitary confinement at the correctional facility.

Sources say she isn't wearing make-up and has removed her trademark blue contact lenses to reveal her natural brown eyes.
The socialite has been crying and complaining she is cold.

Explosion in Turkish capital kills 6

Terror act has been committed in Ankara, Turkey’s capital yesterday. The blast occurred during evening rush hour at the entrance to a shopping centre in the district of Ulus at 18.41 local time.

A-4 explosive killed 6 and injured 100 men. A Pakistan national was among the dead. Parts of the mall’s entrance collapsed, shop windows were blown out, debris was strewn across the street and police cordoned off the area as rescue workers carried injured people, many covered in blood, to ambulances. Unconfirmed reports suggest an explosive device may have been left at a nearby bus stop. Much of the front of one building was ripped off by the blast at the Anafartalar shopping centre. Police officers at the scene said A-4 plastic explosives were believed to the cause of the blast. A-4 is among the preferred explosives used by the outlawed PKK. Prime Minister Rajab Tayyib Ardoghan, armed forces Chief of General Staff General Yasar Buyukanit , opposition leader Daniz Baykal have arrived in the terror incident place. "This is an explosion by an organised terror group," armed forces Chief of General Staff General Yasar Buyukanit said after visiting the site. "You can expect this in any big city now.
Turkish media said the terror act could be an organized suicide against Yashar Boyukanit and other high rank officers of Turkey. That the terror act occurred on the way to the reception on the international defense industry fair which was attended by Yashar Boyukanit and Defense Ministers of other states, including Azerbaijan Defense Minister Safar Abiyev and Defense Industry Minister Yavar Jamalov draws attention.
Azerbaijan Ambassador to Turkey Zakir Hashimov said there are no Azerbaijani among the injured and killed.

Azerbaijan-France Relationships to Remain Unchanged in Sarcozy’s Presidency

Gasimova / The coming to power of Nicola Sarcozy will not change anything with regards to the relationships between Azerbaijan and France, the director of the research program at the Institute of Strategic and International Relations of France, politician Lor Delkur stated.

Delkur reported on May 15 that last winter the French Senate did not adopt the law in favour of criminal responsibility for the fabricated genocide by Armenian people, and therefore proved its neutrality towards the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Moreover, in her opinion, Azerbaijan is an important economic partner for France in the Caucasus. France takes 6th place in foreign trade turnover of Azerbaijan and 4th place amongst its foreign investors. The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline has provided new opportunities for French oil companies.

Delkur noted that since 1997 France had been the co-chairman of the OSCE Minsk Group on the peaceful settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. According to Delkur, France maintains its relationships with Azerbaijan through the European Union and the European Neighbourhood Policy program. Azerbaijan jointed the program in 2004.

After the fall of the USSR, France began to develop the policy of Russia’s leadership in the region resting upon historical bonds. However, in 1992-1994 the country began showing interest in the CIS countries and the relationships between Azerbaijan and France began to develop, especially in the last decade. In 1993, an agreement on friendship and co-operation with Azerbaijan was signed. A number of top-rank visits have been made since 1993 -1994. The first official visit of Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev to France was made in January, 1997. Ilham Aliyev (current president) visited France in 2004.

Nicola Sarcozy was elected president on May 6. He received 53% of the votes. Sarcozy’s main rival, Segolen Ruayal, received 47% of the votes. The inauguration of the new President will take place on May 16.

Iran lawmakers seek U.S. friendship

( AP ) - Iranian deputies were gathering signatures to try and form an Iranian-U.S. friendship committee in parliament, one of the legislators involved in the effort said Tuesday.
Darioush Ghanbari, one of at least 10 deputies who has signed the document calling for the establishment of a Iran-U.S. friendship committee, said Iranian parliamentarians were seeking to reduce tensions with America and "explain Iran's realities to the U.S. Congress."
"In the absence of formal diplomatic relations, we seek to establish a parliamentary relationship with the U.S. Congress and fill the existing gap of contacts between the two nations," Ghanbari told The Associated Press.
Ghanbari said the document was signed by both conservatives and reformists and more signatures were expected by the end of the day.
It was the first effort organized inside the 290-seat parliament during the past three decades to find a way end nearly 30 years of estrangement between the two nations.
No specific number of deputies is required to form such a committee. The document signed by lawmakers will be presented to the parliament's speaker, who has the right to accept or reject it. It was unclear what he would do.

The United States and Iran said Sunday they will hold talks in Baghdad soon about improving Iraq's security — a rare meeting between the two countries. There have been growing efforts, especially in the Arab world, to have Iran and the U.S. end their cold relations.
Washington severed diplomatic ties with Tehran after Iranian militant students stormed its embassy in Tehran in 1979, to protest America's refusal to hand over Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi for trial.

Ghanbari said the formation of a friendship committee would help ease tensions between Iran and the United States.

"This is our positive response to calls by members of the U.S. Congress to establish contacts with Iranian parliamentarians. It will also provide an opportunity to reduce tensions and block anti-Iran legislation in the U.S. Congress," he said.

Washington's Make-Believe Policy on Iran

The Bush administration claims to have a way to deter the militant theocracy of Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons--and thwart its ambition to bring "death to America." Washington's plan aims to pressure Teheran, financially and psychologically. The idea is to cut off Iran's nuclear program from banks and businesses in other nations, and to undermine the confidence of Iranian officials. The right amount of pressure, we are told, can induce Teheran to give up its nuclear program.
In fact this policy is a pathetic sham. It is a cover-up for Washington's abdication of the responsibility to protect American lives. When you consider the plan in detail, it is incredible that anyone thinks it could thwart Iran. The financial "pressure" so far includes a prohibition on the Iranian Bank Sepah from completing transactions in U.S. dollars. That bank is "the financial linchpin of Iran's missile procurement network," according to a Treasury Department official. The ban means Bank Sepah can no longer facilitate sales of oil in dollars--but Teheran has announced that it is now selling oil in euros.

To extend its financial "pressure" overseas, Washington hopes to persuade foreign governments, international banks and companies not to lend Iran money or sell it technology or nuclear expertise. This entails groveling before the likes of France and Germany, keen appeasers of Iran, and Russia, which gutted the already toothless U.N. sanctions against Iran. Even if some companies or countries, like Japan, agree to reduce some of their trade with Iran--the regime is about to open a brand new Russian-built reactor believed capable of producing weapons-grade nuclear material, and apparently begin industrial-scale efforts to produce uranium.

Washington's scheme also calls for undermining the self-assurance of Iran's zealous leadership by responding "firmly" to Iranian hostility. In one notable case, four Iranian officials were detained in Iraq on suspicion of abetting insurgents, but after protests from Teheran and Baghdad, the officials were promptly released. Preposterously, this catch-and-release scheme is allegedly "precisely the type of thing that will chip away at their confidence," as one European diplomat approvingly confided to the New York Times. Recently, U.S. forces detained other Iranian operatives (releasing some of them) and raided an Iranian consular office in Iraq. While our troops are now permitted to kill Iranian operatives in self-defense, these measures, in sum, are but pinpricks.

How could such a feeble policy fail to encourage Iran's belief that it is free to pursue its hostile goals with impunity?

This plan is not some mistaken or naive attempt to deal with Iran. It is an evasion of Iran's nature and goals--an evasion of the need to eliminate the Iranian menace.

Iran's nuclear quest (like its funding of insurgents who slaughter our troops in Iraq) is just the latest in a series of hostilities stretching back to the 1979 invasion of our embassy. To protect American lives, we must recognize Iran as an enemy stained with U.S. blood and assert ourselves militarily to make it non-threatening. This does not mean an Iraq-like crusade to bring them elections; it means protecting U.S. lives by destroying Iran's militant regime. But that is precisely what our leaders refuse to do.

Washington has resigned itself to the emergence of a nuclear Iran (and an endless insurgency in Iraq), because our leaders do not believe we have the moral right to stop it. To do that would be self-assertive: it would mean putting America's interests first. Today's prevailing ethical standard condemns such action as selfish, and therefore immoral. Washington's moral premise rules out as illegitimate the dedicated pursuit of American self-defense. But wishing to evade the self-destructive implications of their moral principle, our leaders concoct a plan that creates the illusion of their commitment to our defense.

The squeeze-Iran policy is a ruse that must be repudiated as impractical because immoral. We, the people of America, have a moral right to pursue our happiness in freedom. We owe it to ourselves to demand that our government actually fulfill its obligation to defend our freedom--not merely pretend to.

Web 2.0 wave starts to take hold

Whether you use your computer for work or fun, the programs you use generally have one thing in common - they are stored on your PC. Increasingly though, that software is moving online.

Google has made a variety of programs available online
The move to put more and more of those familiar programs on to the web has been happening for a while but its latest incarnation has won the name of Web 2.0.
What is it - the definition is imprecise at best, but it loosely describes a category of websites that are known for interactivity, collaboration and community.

Developments in underlying web technology make this all possible and mean that what the sites can do is very new. Simplicity is often the key. Often it is an online application that does one thing and does it well.

CNET.com's Caroline McCarthy has a few favourites: "I have just started using a new site called Remember The Milk, which is a task manager. It's incredibly simple, a very easy to use list of things you have to do, places you have to go, things you have to buy, that sort of thing.

"Clipmarks is a site where you can just share clips or portions of a website rather than the entire bookmark, so it's good for quotations.

"Tumblr is basically a blogging platform for people who don't want to use a blogging platform. If you look at things like Wordpress and Blogger, which a lot of people use to create blogs, they're very functional. Tumblr is very simple."

Picturedots is a good example of the creativity that the so-called 2.0 sites display. You load in a photograph, trace the numbered dots on top of the image and print out the final result as a puzzle.

In a basic way it demonstrates how web browsers are gradually being used by consumers for far more than just looking around in cyberspace.

"The idea of using your web browser as a tool is still a fairly new concept," explained Mark Chackerian of Picturedots.

"I'm an internet professional, for me my browser is like a Swiss Army Knife; I use it for a lot of things and in a much greater capacity than most people.

"So for me to find a way to demonstrate to people how they can use their browser to do new kinds of things, makes me part of that new trend."

A future online?

As people gravitate to the internet for more and more free services and solutions the web browser could become the central window through which our daily lives are conducted, potentially replacing most desktop applications.

They know it's going to be a big part of their companies in 10 years

Software giants like Microsoft and Adobe have been launching their own online applications, some of which resemble their well-known retail titles.

Adobe has released a stripped-down web version of its video editing software, called Remix, and later this year plans to launch an internet version of its very successful photo manipulation program, Photoshop.

"Microsoft and Adobe are in a bind," says Nick Thompson, senior editor of Wired Magazine. "They make tons of money from the software they sell in shrink-wrapped boxes. But they also know that the future is online software. So what do they do?

"I think they're doing two things. I think they are genuinely trying to figure out how to make this work, because they know it's going to be a big part of their companies in 10 years.

"But they're also trying to keep their current customers happy, and they're trying not to make it look like you should switch immediately because maybe you should buy that one last Office upgrade."

Meanwhile Google has been building an entire suite of free online applications over the past few years.

Docs and Spreadsheets is a product that most consumers could happily use instead of Microsoft Office, with multi-user, location free collaboration being an added benefit.

Advertisers' advantage

The key question is whether online software is of genuine use to the consumer or is just about advertising revenue.

"There will always be people who say that this is just a mechanism to get more eyeballs on our ads," says Jonathan Rochelle of Google.

"But I don't think people see that, and I certainly don't see that as evil, as a bad thing. If that was the case and we ended up getting more people to look at our ads it's not necessarily a bad thing."

One incentive for companies to supply online software is compatibility. In one go all customers can be upgraded to the newest version and create files that are universally compatible, unlike different generations of Word documents.

"Another advantage of online software is that the companies can track exactly what you do and how you use it. Then they can target specifically to you," said Mr Thompson.

"If you send a lot of e-mails about they'll know that maybe you're trying to buy a cellphone, and they can serve you ads on cellphones.

"So the companies really like it, and it's to the companies' advantage for the software to work extremely well and for you to use it all the time because then they get more information and then they can sell you more stuff."

To older users of desktop applications, who are usually more cautious about their online activity, this might seem disconcerting, but for younger computer users, the MySpace generation who freely flaunt the details of their personal lives, it might be not be such a big deal.

Optigami folding glasses by RKS Design

One day in the middle of wrestling season a former teammate came back to visit. He had joined the army and proceeded to show one of the coaches his army issued glasses (apparently they are called BCGs though they seem popular now with artists / designers and of course Drew Carey). He claimed that they were resistant to breakage, a poor statement at the time since my coach proceeded to crush them in his hand.

Anyway, I thought of those glasses immediately when I came across the Optigami by RKS Design. I don't think they are in production and the style will take some getting used to. Though the thick sides have functionality behind them, they still look a bit heavy especially with the clear lense frames. Pretty nifty though that the sides provide protection for the lenses when folded up.

Not sure how much usage this feature will get. I think the only time people will take off their glasses is when they are about to head to bed and on a night stand I doubt glasses need much protection from the elements. In addition, if you did need protection does the case really add that much volume? Regardless this is a pretty nifty idea and I'd like to see a few more iterations and progression. They may have stumbled on something useful for sunglasses, people almost never carry the case around and in addition to scratches, smudges are a total pain.

Turkish police detain man who tried to divert plane to Iran

Turkish police detained a man who threatened to blow up a passenger plane Tuesday unless the flight was diverted to Iran, officials said.

The man claimed to have an explosive device on board the private Pegasus flight that was traveling from the predominantly Kurdish city of Diyarbakir to Istanbul, Transport Minister Binali Yildirim said.

The man, identified as Mehmet Goksin Gol, initially said he wanted the plane diverted to the capital, Ankara, and then changed his mind and demanded that it change its route to Tehran, Iran, Yildirim said. The pilots landed the plane at Ankara's Esenboga airport, where the man gave himself up and was arrested some 40 minutes later.

The 39-year-old man was not armed and did not have explosives. He had claimed to have an explosive device that he said could be set off with a mobile phone signal, Yildirim said.

Earlier, officials said the man had stormed the cockpit, but Pegasus airline CEO Ali Sabanci said the cockpit was locked in accordance with international flight rules and the man was not able to enter it.

Yildirim said the man had not made any political demands and the reason he wanted to divert the plane was under investigation.

Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu told reporters the man stood up during the flight and shouted: "I have a bomb."

The plane, a Boeing 737, left Diyarbakir at 5:40 p.m. (1440GMT). Pilots notified authorities of the attempt to divert the plane half an hour later, the transport minister said.

There were no injuries. There were 178 passengers and six crew on board.

The government-run Anatolia news agency said that in 1994 the man was acquitted on charges of aiding and abetting the separatist Kurdish rebel group, the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK. The agency also said the man had been charged for using and selling drugs in the past and some news reports said he may have been under the influence of drugs when he tried to divert the plane.

Aksu said police were investigating possible links to the PKK, which has been fighting for autonomy in Turkey's southeast since 1984.

"It is not yet clear if there is any connection to the organization," Aksu said.

Yildirim said: "the investigation will reveal if this was an individual incident or if he acted in the name of an organization."

The man's brother, however, told Anatolia that the attempted hijacker had no links to any organization and was suffering from depression following the deaths of their father, sister and brother.

Passengers on board the plane they were not aware that the plane was being hijacked until after it had landed at Ankara airport.

"We were being escorted by an F-16 jet and I thought there was some kind of a technical problem," Emir Ali Celebi said.

He said two female passengers became frightened and fainted when special forces officers in ski masks entered the plane to detain the man.

The transport minister said there was no security lapses at Diyarbakir airport — an airfield that is also used by Turkey's air force.

"Our only consolation is that the incident ended without even a nosebleed," Yildirim said.

Firat Keles, a passenger on board, told CNN-Turk television that the man could be seen reading the Quran during the flight.

Bomb squads searched the plane for explosives and the passengers luggage were pushed through X-ray machines as a precaution, Anatolia said. Pegasus sent another plane to Ankara to fly the passengers to Istanbul.

It was the second hijacking attempt by a Turk claiming to have a bomb in less than a year.

In October, a Turkish army deserter, claiming to have bombs strapped to his body, hijacked a Turkish Airlines plane during a flight from Tirana, Albania, to Istanbul. The hijacker who had no bombs released all passengers unharmed after fighter jets escorted the aircraft to an Italian airport. The man was seeking asylum because he feared persecution in his Muslim homeland after his conversion to Christianity and wanted Pope Benedict XVI's protection. The Associated Press

Iraqi worker

On September 14, 2003, Baha Musa, a
26-year-old hotel receptionist and father of two, was detained along with
several others in a raid by the Queens Lancashire Regiment in the Haitham Hotel
in Basra.

Over the course of the next 36 hours, Musa was humiliated,
starved, robbed, forced to drink his own urine, choked and repeatedly pummeled
by perhaps dozens of British soldiers.

He died as a result of the
sadistic abuse.

Last month, a six-month court martial ended with the
acquittal of the soldiers charged in Musa’s death.

This was despite the
Ministry of Defence using a High Court judge and leading barristers quizzing
more than 100 witnesses.

Obvious similarities exist between the
systematic abuse perpertated at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay by American
military forces and the circumstances under which Musa was killed by the British
Army.

As with Abu Ghraib, a notorious prison under Saddam Hussein, the
site where Musa was murdered had served as a military facility used by the
Baathist secret police.

Court testimony revealed that Musa and the other
detainees were beaten so severly they lost conciousness and were left lying in
their own excrement.

The detainees were also subjected to racist verbal
abuse by their captors.

The coroner revealed that Musa died from
asphyxia. Among the 93 seperate injuries from the countless blows inflicted were
a broken nose and three broken ribs.

The case of Baha Musa is but the
latest in a series of trials over the abuse and murder of Iraqi civilians that
ended with no one being held to account.

Ministry of Defence figures
reveal that since the invasion of Iraq four years ago, a total of 221
investigations have been conducted into abuse allegations involving British
troops.

All but 23 of the cases were closed without further ado, with
the military deciding there was no case to answer.

Only six cases of
deliberate abuse have made it to a court, and just one of these has led to a
conviction.

Azerbaijan not to allow its territory to be used to hurt neighbors

Azeri Defense Ministry said on Sunday that Azerbaijan has no plans to make its territory available to other countries for the purpose of opposing its neighbors.

"Azerbaijan, as a member of the anti-terrorist coalition, allows to use its airspace for the purpose of conducting anti-terror operations in Afghanistan," the ministry said in a statement.

"But it must note that Azerbaijan will not create opportunities or conditions allowing foreign countries to use its territory against neighboring countries," the ministry added.

The ministry made the statement after U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew Bryza said in Tbilisi on March 30 that the United States hoped to secure the use of airfields in Azerbaijan for military purposes.

The head of the U.S. Missile Defense Agency said last month that Washington could be interested in locating a radar in an unspecified Caucasus state as part of the Missile Defence System it plans to deploy in Central Europe.

But the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry said the country has not and will not negotiate with the U.S. on deploying a missile defense system, or on building a military base in Azerbaijan, which is against its constitution, the Interfax news agency reported.

TEHRAN -- A captive British marine was shown in new TV footage yesterday apologizing for being in Iranian waters, and Tehran made public a third letter supposedly written by the only woman prisoner among 15 Britons seized by Iran's Revolutionary Guards.
Britain sharply denounced Iran over the treatment of the captives -- a sign both sides were hardening their stance as the crisis entered its second week.
Iran appeared intent on sending a message of strength as it faces mounting United Nations sanctions over its uranium enrichment program, which the United States and other nations suspect the Islamic republic is using to develop nuclear weapons.
Underlining Iran's hard-line sentiment, some 60,000 soccer fans chanted "Death to Britain" at a match in Tehran, while 700 people rallying near Tehran University yelled "We condemn the British invasion." A Muslim cleric told worshippers during Friday prayers that "Britain is an aggressor and Iran has confronted it."
In the latest video broadcast by Iranian state television, Royal Marine rifleman Nathan Thomas Summers was pictured while sitting with another male captive, both in fatigues, and female British sailor Faye Turney in a blue jumpsuit and a black head scarf.
The three were among 15 British sailors and marines detained by Iranian naval units March 23 while patrolling for smugglers near the mouth of the Shatt al-Arab, a waterway that has long been a disputed dividing line between Iraq and Iran.
"We trespassed without permission," marine Summers said in the video shown on Iran's Arabic-language channel Al-Alam. "I deeply apologize for entering your waters."
The video, the second broadcast of the detainees in three days, drew indignation from British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who accused Tehran of manipulating the prisoners.
"All it does is enhance people's sense of disgust. Captured personnel being paraded and manipulated in this way doesn't fool anyone," Mr. Blair said. "What the Iranians have to realize is that if they continue in this way, they will face increasing isolation."
It was not known whether the marine spoke under pressure from his captors, but marine Summers said in the broadcast that "our treatment has been very friendly."
Iran also released a third letter supposedly written by the sole female detainee in which she says she has been "sacrificed" by Britain. Seaman Turney said she was sorry for straying into Iranian waters and asked whether it wasn't time for Britain to withdraw its troops from Iraq.
"I am writing to you as a British serviceperson who has been sent to Iraq, sacrificed due to the intervening policies of the Bush and Blair governments," the letter said, using even more stilted language than the previous letters.

The European Union warned Iran of undefined "appropriate measures" if the British naval team remained in captivity and called on Iran to inform the British government of the team members' whereabouts and give British diplomats access -- a British request that Iran so far has denied.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mohammad Ali Hosseini, condemned the warning, saying Europeans should not take a collective stance in support of Britain.
Meanwhile, Russia urged the United Nations yesterday to prepare an independent report on Iran's seizure of the 15 sailors and marines, a day after the U.N. Security Council had expressed its "grave concern," Agence France-Presse reported.
"The current situation demands an in-depth study into the incident, taking into account the conflicting accounts of London and Tehran, as well as the coordinates presented by both parties about where [the 15] were found," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"Given that Britain insists that its servicemen were fulfilling a U.N. Security Council mandate, we believe the Secretariat of the U.N. should prepare an independent report into the incident," said Alexandre Yakovenko, the deputy Russian foreign minister, according to the statement.
The office of the Turkish prime minister, who is trying to mediate the dispute, said Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had indicated his government was willing to reconsider freeing Seaman Turney, who is married and has a 3-year-old daughter.
Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki had suggested Wednesday that she would be freed soon, but the following day the semiofficial Iranian news agency Mehr said her release was canceled.
British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett, who denounced yesterday's video as "appalling," said a letter Iran sent on the detention of the 15 sailors and marines would not help resolve the standoff.
"There is nothing in the letter to suggest that the Iranians are looking for a way out," she told the British Broadcasting Corp.
The letter stopped short of asking for a formal apology. Instead it asked for Britain to acknowledge its naval team trespassed into Iranian waters and confirm it would not happen again.
The sailors and marines, part of a U.N.-mandated force patrolling the Persian Gulf, were seized while searching merchant ships for evidence of smuggling. Britain insists the team was in Iraqi waters and has said no admission of error would be made.
Iraqi officials have backed Britain's account, saying again yesterday that the Royal Navy personnel were captured in Iraq's territorial waters. Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said his government was in contact with Iran to "ensure the wise handling of the case."

Over the next few months, Yahoo! Mail users will begin having unlimited storage at their disposal. From the news pieces I’ve come across, the attachment size limit of 10MB (20MB for Y! Mail Plus subscribers) per email hasn’t changed. So much for emailing large movies of your St. Patrick’s Day drinking antics to your friends… but then again that’s what YouTube is for.

With the current trend of increasingly more affordable data storage, it could almost be expected that unlimited storage would be offered like this. Of course, Yahoo!, like others in the data storage industry, are well aware that only a small percentage of their users will use more than a few gigabytes. I vaguely recall a conversation with Caterina Fake where she mentioned that a infinitesimal group of Flickr users ever came close to utilizing their monthly upload limit, which was 2GB for pro users back in the day.

These Yahoo! Mail specifications will change in the coming months.

How much storage space do you use with your email account of choice? Gmail tells me I’m using “1708 MB (60%) of your 2833 MB” with 14,000 emails since I got my gmail account on June 29th, 2004 through one of those ubiquitous gmail invite swap websites from a lady in Britain who gave me an invite after I posted something about how I wasn’t going to vote for George Bush. (Brits don’t like him apparently?)

Oh and just to put this out there, from the best of my knowledge services like Gmail compress your emails so if you are using a gigabyte in plain text email it’s only taking up something like 200-300 megs on the server.

French President not to visit Azerbaijan

President of France Jacques Chirac's scheduled visit to Azerbaijan will not take place.

French president's spokesman Jerome Bonnafont told the APA Chirac's tenure ends on May 16, and he is not going to visit any country, including Azerbaijan.

The spokesman said the President last visited Berlin. He participated in the event on the anniversary of the European Union.

Bonnafont said President Chirac will not visit any foreign countries due to busy work schedule.
French President was scheduled to visit Azerbaijan in the first term of this year. The agreement on the visit was reached during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to France.

YouTube Undergoing Massive Changes?

Pete Cashmore seems to believe that the current changes YouTube is undergoing tonight will be much more than just the maintanence they claim. The potential changes would include a new way to organize videos and facilitate user stickiness where they stay around longer after finding more and more relevant content. Personally, I don’t think this is necessary as I end up wasting 2 hours on YouTube everytime someone sends me a link to a video.
The new interface will allow users to organize clips according to designated categories. So, for example, music clips can be organized around artists or vacations can be organized around specific activities. For broadcasters and other mainstream media, there will be the utility to make their presence more organized, putting specific shows in order.
Regardless, we’ll see if these claims turn out to be true in the morning. I think it’s safe to say that these potential changes will be made under the guidance of Google.. who is trying to recoup the cost of countless copyright lawsuits *cough* Viacom *cough* by enhancing YouTube so viewers hang around longer and see more ads.

Azerbaijan will publicize the country in the Netherlands

Second channel of the Netherlands television has broadcast a half-hour program on Azerbaijan to publicize the country in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, press service of the Benelux Azerbaijanis Congress said.

The program narrated on the economic accomplishments of Azerbaijan, on the Armenian aggression against the country as a result of which 20 percent of the country's territories were occupied and one million of Azerbaijanis became refugees and IDPs. The telecast included views from January 20, 1990 tragedy committed by soviet troops in Baku, the plots from the Khojali massacre committed by Armenian aggressors and soviet armed units in 26 February 1992.
The program initiated by the Embassy of Azerbaijan to Belgium, also included several folk samples, culture and music of Azerbaijan.

Prosecutor General demands annulment of Huseyn Abdullayev’s parliamentary immunity

Azerbaijan’s Parliament Disciplinary Commission today debated the March 16 incident between parliamentarians Huseyn Abdullayev and Fazail Agamali during the presentation of the annual report of the government.

The one-hour debate was held without the participation of journalists. Then the issue was discussed at the extraordinary meeting of the Parliament. Deputy Prosecutor General Rustam Usubov read Prosecutor Zakir Garalov’s demand to annul Huseyn Abdullayev’s parliamentary immunity at the meeting attended 102 parliamentarians. A criminal case has been instituted on the Criminal Code article 221.2.2, 132. Parliamentarian Abdullayev used insulting words, humiliating honor and dignity, harmed his image of deputy without observing the deputy ethics during the debate of the government’s report on March 16. Despite the warning, he insulted and swore the deputies who asked him to keep up with the discipline. Then he insulted parliamentarian Agamali and assaulted at him, which interrupted the parliament’s sitting for 20 minutes.
The annulment of Huseyn Abdullayev’s parliamentary immunity is being discussed at the Parliament’s plenary session now.

The H5N1 strain of bird flu has killed poultry in the Moscow region for the first time.

"The pathogenicity of this virus for people has not been confirmed. Vets have detected it, they confirm it is the H5N1 strain," Gennady Onishchenko, Russia's chief sanitary expert and head of a consumer watchdog, was quoted by RIA news agency as saying on Friday.

Last month Russia recorded its first cases this year of the H5N1 strain in dead domestic birds, detected in the southern Krasnodar region.

Russia recorded more than 90 cases of bird flu last year. Most were in southern regions, particularly the North Caucasus area that borders Georgia and Azerbaijan. Several cases were also found in the Siberian regions of Novosibirsk and Omsk.

The virus was detected in a house in the Pavlovsky settlement of the Domodedovo area near Moscow. The house was being disinfected, Onishchenko said.

Workers on two farms near Moscow have been taken to hospital suspected of having the bird flu, Interfax agency cited the acting governor of the Moscow region, Alexei Pantelyeyev, as saying. He added that a few dozen birds had been culled.

Health experts fear the H5N1 virus could mutate into a form that passes easily from human to human, sparking a pandemic that could kill millions. The virus has killed 167 people worldwide since 2003, mainly in Asia.

No human cases have been recorded in Russia. Five people have died from eight cases in neighbouring Azerbaijan. Reuters

Azeri Internet, cell phone use to rise in coming years

The development of information technologies in Azerbaijan will increase the number of mobile phone and Internet users through 2009, a Britain-based research center predicts.
The percentage of cell phone users in the country will make up 20.2% by the year-end. The figure is expected to reach 21.6% in 2007, 23.3% in 2008 and 24.1% the following year, the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) said.
As for the world wide web users, their number will remain unchanged in 2007 at 0.7% of the overall population, just like in the past two years. However, the indicator will slightly rise to 0.8% in 2008 and 2009, according to the projections.

I have never engaged in such a slimy practice and would never ever stoop to such a thing because it is pretty pointless . I tried and never want to ever get the personal contact and attention that some other advertisers will offer you. Google Adsense is a great idea, but the way they run it...well they can just go fuck themselves and that was exactly what I told them to do in my last correspondence that I'm sure no actual person will ever read. Don't get me wrong, for the most part I'm a huge Google fan. This site wouldn't have gone in the direction it is going if it weren't for Google Vids, their e-mails service is rock solid, and their search engine is still one of the most powerful tools on the web. I just think that I got burned by their AdSense division, and I am absolutely not in support of the way it is currently run. It is to much of a to appeal my case and sent in all pertinent information as requested but all you get is automated messages and you never get to plead your case to a real individual. Israeli general suggests to use Azerbaijan's airbases in strike against Iran

In a stark statement published on Saturday Brigadier General Oded Tira observed, "President Bush lacks the political power to attack Iran. As an American strike in Iran is essential for our existence, we must help him pave the way by lobbying the Democratic Party (which is conducting itself foolishly) and US newspaper editors. We need to do this in order to turn the Iranian issue to a bipartisan one and unrelated to the Iraq failure."

Because of the dramatic loss of political power of the Bush-Cheney administration, General Tira urges the Israel Lobby to, "turn to Hillary Clinton and other potential presidential candidates in the Democratic Party so that they support immediate action by Bush against Iran."

In another move designed to strengthen Bush politically, General Tira urges the Israel Lobby to exert its influence on European countries so that, "Bush will not be isolated in the international arena again."

As if all of that Israel-lobbying in America and Europe were not enough, General Tira proposes an even more aggressive political tactic, "We must clandestinely cooperate with Saudi Arabia so that it also persuades the US to strike Iran. For our part, we must prepare an independent military strike by coordinating flights in Iraqi airspace with the US. We should also coordinate with Azerbaijan the use of airbases in its territory and also enlist the support of the Azeri minority in Iran. In addition, we must immediately start preparing for an Iranian response to an attack."

Based on the urgency of General Tira's extraordinary pleas, it is immediately apparent that he has been shocked by the turn of political events inside America. By this time, he has learned from official US sources that the long-anticipated attack against Iran has been shelved because of tectonic shifts in American politics.

Apparently, General Tira did not realize that President Bush has become the most deeply unpopular president in American history and that it was his subservience to the dictates of the Israel Lobby and its demands for wars against Iraq and Iran that led him into the political prison where he now finds himself isolated and impotent.

Neither does General Tira realize that the Republican Party is no longer unified in its support of President Bush's deeply unpopular war in Iraq or his plans for expanding the war by a sustained bombing campaign against Iran.

Since General Tira did not publish any remarks about the Iraq Study Group headed by former US Secretary of State, James Baker, he may be oblivious to the political facts now in place in 2007 America.

Instead of the bipartisan commitment to broaden Bush's unpopular war as General Tira proposes, there is now a broadening bipartisan movement to reign in the US losses in Iraq. No major American politician has voiced any enthusiasm for broadening Bush's war into Iran as General Tira beseeches the US to do.

General Tira's outburst suggests that the official channels for news and the analysis of public affairs in Israel are not working as efficiently as they should in the 21st century.

Perhaps, someone should provide the General with a subscription to Ha'aretz and the International Herald Tribune for starters.

The i-mate Smartflip Review

I spent the last three weeks with an i-mate Smartflip Windows Mobile Smartphone. I am saying this because I am not usually the person to carry a Smartphone, rather having a Pocket PC Phone Edition with me. But the i-mate Smartflip is quite a looker, and functional.

It starts being a very thin (98.5 x 51.4 x 15.8mm) and light (99g with battery) handset in a clamshell form factor. It fits comfortably in the hand, and the keypad is easily accessible for one handed operation. The keypad is actually very interesting, being completely flush and made of a single piece, instead of having separate buttons.

The keypad comes with the standard keys you expect to find on a mobile phone (including answer and hangup), plus soft keys for access to contextual menu options, home and back keys. On the sides you find a camera button, volume control and a voice command button, used to initiate some actions with your voice (voice training/recording is required though).

Also you will find the keypad is backlit with a very soft blue light - almost too soft, perhaps a bit more light would be good. But the T9 predictive text input helps a lot, and with the ability to add words to the built-in dictionary, it worked ok.

The internal 2.2" LCD is nice and bright, with 240x320 pixels (QVGA) resolution. It serves as the viewfinder as well when the handset is in camera mode - used for still images or video recordings.

A secondary external 1.2" LCD with 128x128 pixels is available and it's one of the most interesting parts on this device. It shows a status screen including date, time, network status, signal strength, battery level and e-mail notification. It also announces incoming calls - and if you have pictures for your contacts those are shown when a call is coming. It is also used as a camera viewfinder for self-pictures, but more importantly, it's a media display, showing information about music if you use the handset for playback of your song collection. Three keys under the external display serve as media control with reverse, forward, play/pause functions - also used as soft keys when the device is closed and you need to interact with some message on the external screen.

The problem here is that you can't just plug any pair of headphones. You see, to save space and make this a very thin handset, the manufacturer decided to create a special USB adapter, serving as port for charging, synchronisation and sound output. The best option is to actually arm yourself with a pair of Bluetooth Stereo headsets and use these with your i-mate Smartflip.

Even though it's not listed in the specs, this device supports the A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), a stereo profile for use with Bluetooth headsets. But don't go too far away from the device. In my tests you can get broken sound if you are more than 3 metres from your phone. Otherwise it works very well. Of course you can also use a Bluetooth headset with the i-mate Smartflip, just won't be stereo.

This Smartphone is quite responsive, although I found out that I risked running out of memory pretty soon - the best option is to make sure you add any media and programs to a microSD card. Which is not bad, but it means your collection of SD and miniSD cards from your Pocket PC will have not much use here.

The i-mate Smartflip runs Windows Mobile 5.0 AKU2, which means it brings the Messaging Security and Feature Pack built-in, ready to talk to a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 with SP2 and start using the direct push e-mail for automatic synchronisation when new e-mails arrive on the server, and the security policies management.

It also means that on this configuration you will likely need to install a certificate. If your server uses a certificate issued by one of the kown root CA then you are lucky. Just copy the file and install it. But if you are like me and have a self-signed certificate, then make sure you head to the Club i-mate website and download the utility to install these certificates. Unlike the Pocket PCs, the device is locked so you can't go installing any certificate.

To donwload this utility you need to register the device. I didn't want to because I am returning it to Vodafone New Zealand after this review, so I tried contacting the Club i-mate on-line support. It's a real-time chat with one of their support people. After explaining why I couldn't register the device, the support person sent me the appropriate file and I was able to connect the device to my Exchange Server pretty much straight away. Thumbs up for their service on this!

If you are like me and live on e-mail, more than phone calls, then you are well served. The direct push functionality works well, and I had no problem receiving e-mails. The only problem here in New Zealand is the lack of EDGE networks. Vodafone currently provides GPRS, UMTS and HSDPA, and EDGE would be an upgrade to GRPS, with potentially 3x the speeds. Alas, the i-mate Smartflip works on GPRS and EDGE only, but for e-mail and text only RSS reading it worked perfectly well.

As part of the software package, on top of the standard Outlook Mobile, Internet Explorer Mobile, Contacts, Calendar, Notes, i-mate also bundles the Smartflipe with the ClearVue series of document viewers, compatible with Word, PDF, PowerPoint and Excel files. It also comes with eTrust Antivirus, a Task Manager to help manage the programs running on your phone, and a J2ME run-time environment (J2ME, CLDC 1.1, MIDP 2.0).

For people wanting to be always in touch, you can do so through e-mail, SMS, MMS and the MSN Messenger client for IM.

The sound quality during voice calls is very good, and it is comfortable to hold during calls, although most of the times I used my Bluetooth headset for this. And even with Bluetooth always on, the battery lasted for a couple of days. I actually didn't have to worry much about it.

The built-in 1.3 megapixel digital camera is usable, and you can get some good shots for a mobile blog, but don't think you will use it as a print quality still camera. Think of it as fun to use.

Overall the phone shows good construction, no problems with the system in general (no, I didn't have to reset it anytime during these weeks) and worked reliably during my use.

The Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic is recommended to assume human rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic and the international documents signed by the Azerbaijan Republic, as main criteria in lawmaking process, and ensure compliance of the legal acts of the Azerbaijan Republic with international standards. The executive bodies indicated in the National Plan of Action are ordered to involve local non-governmental organizations in the implementation of the National Plan of Action.

Saddam lawyer seeks to prevent handover

Iraq's highest court on Tuesday rejected Saddam's appeal against his conviction and death sentence for the killing of 148 Shiites in the northern city of Dujail in 1982. The court said the former president should be hanged within 30 days.

"According to the international conventions, it is forbidden to hand a prisoner of war to his adversary," Saddam's lawyer Khalil al-Dulaimi said.

"I urge all the international and legal organizations, the United Nations secretary-general, the Arab League and all the leaders of the world to rapidly prevent the American administration from handing the president to the Iraqi authorities," he told The Associated Press.

Cardinal Renato Martino, Pope Benedict XVI's top prelate for justice issues and a former Vatican envoy to the U.N., condemned the death sentence in a newspaper interview published Thursday, saying capital punishment goes against the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

After Saddam's death sentence was handed down last month, Louise Arbour, the U.N. high commissioner for human rights, urged Iraq to ensure a fair appeals process and to refrain from executing Saddam even if the sentence is upheld.

Some international legal observers and human rights groups have also called Saddam's trial unfair because of alleged interference by the Shiite-dominated government.

An official close to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has said Saddam would remain in a U.S. military prison until he is handed over to Iraqi authorities on the day of his execution. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to address the media.

A top government official disputed the court's ruling that Saddam must be hanged within 30 days, saying the execution should be held after that time period. The comment comes amid debate over other legal procedures such as whether the presidency is required to approve the execution.

"The law does not say within 30 days, it says after the lapse of 30 days," said Busho Ibrahim, deputy justice minister. There was no immediate explanation for the conflicting claims.

Al-Dulaimi, Saddam's lawyer, warned that turning over Saddam to the Iraqis would increase the sectarian violence that already is tearing the country apart.

"If the American administration insists in handing the president to the Iraqis, it would commit a great strategic mistake which would lead to the escalation of the violence in Iraq and the eruption of a destructive civil war," he said.

In Washington, Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said there was concern about the potential for violence in carrying out the execution. "I'm sure the Iraqi government is thinking through that and working with the coalition in terms of the impact that could have," he said.

Attacks on Thursday killed at least 28 Iraqis, while the U.S. military announced the deaths of four American soldiers and a Marine.

In Baghdad, a suicide bomber carrying two empty plastic containers joined a crowd of people lining up to buy kerosene near a stadium, said Brig. Abdul-Karim Khalaf, a spokesman for the Iraqi Interior Ministry. The attacker then detonated his explosive-laden belt, killing at least 10 people and injuring 20 others.

Two bombs also exploded opposite a park in the South Gate area of Baghdad, killing nine people and wounding 43, a police officer said on condition of anonymity because of security concerns.

Another blast targeted a police patrol in western Baghdad but missed, killing two civilians instead, police said. Four people were wounded.

Gunmen wearing police uniforms attacked an army checkpoint in the city of Balad north of Baghdad, killing three Iraqi troops and wounding eight people, authorities said. A bomb also killed an Iraqi soldier in a military vehicle near Qazaniya, close to the Iranian border, police said.

The U.S. military said a roadside bomb killed an American soldier and wounded another Thursday while they were on patrol north of Baghdad. Three soldiers also died from roadside bombs in the capital and a Marine was killed in western Anbar province on Wednesday, the military said.

With 100 American troops dead so far this month, December is the second-deadliest month of 2006 for U.S. military personnel. At least 105 troops died in October.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy said it believes four American security contractors and an Austrian are still being held captive after being kidnapped in southern Iraq six weeks ago.

The men went missing Nov. 16 when a large convoy of trucks being escorted by their Crescent Security Group was hijacked on a highway near Safwan, a city on the border with Kuwait. Suspected militiamen dressed in Iraqi police uniforms ambushed the convoy, taking 14 hostages, including the five security guards, and nine truck drivers who were later released.

"At this time, U.S. officials believe the American citizens are still being held by their captors," embassy spokesman Lou Fintor said, without elaborating.

A video of the kidnapped Americans reportedly surfaced this week, showing them to be alive and in good condition. The footage, reported by McClatchy Newspapers, was believed to have been made about a month ago. If authentic, it would be the first proof that all five men survived the ambush.

On 28 December 2006 the Azerbaijan Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting made a resolution to stop the broadcast of D Channel 3 January 2007, while STV, the Russian channels ORT and RTR will be stopped from 1 July 2007.
Nushiravan Maharramli, the Council Chairman, informed Trend that a meeting of the Azerbaijan Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting held on 28 December 2006 discussed the regulation of the broadcasting of foreign television and radio channels in line with the legislation. The broadcast of the Turkish TV channel in Azerbaijan will be continued. “Taking into the consideration the agreements signed with Russia and Turkey in 1995 as basis, the Council made a resolution to cease broadcasting of D Channel from 3 January 2007, while STV, ORT and RTR will be stopped from 1 July 2007. The Council took into consideration the mutual relationships between the two countries and warned the Turkish and Russian channels in advance,” he said.

Azerfon States Strong Tariff Rivalry at Azerbaijani Mobile Market

General Director of Azerfon joint venture, John Armli, announced that tariffs by Azerfon will strongly rival with tariffs of other mobile operators at the Azerbaijani market, Trend reports.
Present the company carries out work over the establishment of network base. In February testing will complete and the company will set up commercial activities.
“In 2007 we will be able to serve 1.5mln subscribers. My plan targets rapid implementation of this forecast,” the company head said.
On 28 December 2005 the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies issued a license for Azerfon for rendering mobile services.
The company was founded by Aztelekom Production Association (10%), German company Siemens (30%) and two British companies (60%).
The company intends to invest approximately $300mln in the expansion of the coverage zone and development if infrastructure companies. At present the company staff numbers to 180 people and is rapidly growing.

What is it about Che Guevara that makes him mythical nearly 30 years after his death?
Che became rooted not only in worldwide political mythology, but even in American pop culture. He is the narrator in Evita. The group "Rage Against the Machine" had his image on the cover of their first album. I remember the big poster of Che that hung in the grad student office at my school. I even have a t-shirt with his image on it. Certainly his good looks didn't hurt. In a 1987 article in Spin, Scott Cohen, in an imaginary meeting with Che in a cafe to discuss the revolution in America, compares Che to Jim Morrison (as to Fidel Castro's Jerry Garcia). And his martyrdom; while Fidel stayed safely in Cuba (or not so safely as it turned out, considering all the CIA plots against him ), Che went to Bolivia to die fighting the oppressive government there.
But it would be a shame if that is all Che is remembered for-- as sort of a leftist James Dean, young, handsome and dead. Let me tell you a little bit about Che. Ernesto "Che" Guevara was born in Rosario, Argentina in 1928 into a middle class family. Che went to medical school and became a physician. He then set out travelling through Latin America. Che's mother Celia was a socialist, but Che was intially more interested in archeology than politics. It was Che's experiences in travelling and the companions he met that seemed to push him to the left. Che became an administrator in the leftist Arbenz government in Guatemala in 1953. He was forced to flee after the CIA-aided military coup in 1954. While this was happening, he, like the rest of Latin America was watching the events in Cuba. In 1953, a group of men and women, led by a young attorney named Fidel Castro, militarily assaulted the Moncada barracks in Cuba. The raid was, militarily, a disaster, leading to the death or capture of nearly everyone involved in it. However, the Cuban government made the mistake of trying to make an example of Castro and the other survivors by trying them in a court of law. Castro was, of course convicted, but used his sentencing as a bully pulpit from which to deliver what wouldbe his most famous speech, "History Will Absolve Me." This brash speech inspired patriots throughout Latin America.
Soon Castro was released in a general political amnesty. He made his way to Mexico, where he was to meet Che. Though severely asthmatic, Che signed on with the Cuban rebels. He quickly demonstrated the natural ability to take on new tasks that he showed throughout his life by swiftly rising to the command of one of the rebel columns. At the beginning of the year 1959, the Cuban rebels rolled into Havana triumphant. They were cheered not only through Latin America, but by radicals in the United States as well. Che switched from rebel commandante to running the Cuban national bank. Within a year he virtually took charge of the entire Cuban economy when he became the Minister of Industries.
His ability to take on various tasks was impressive, but not necessarily what was unique about Che. To me, his uniqueness, his beauty came in a couple of lesser-known incidents. In the book My Friend Che, Ricardo Rojo, a friend of Che's, as the title intimates, told of travelling with Che through Latin America in the early fifties. They arrived in Bolivia just after an alliance between workers and leftist elements in the military had taken power. While his travelling companions found these developments very heartening, Che was disturbed by some of it. He was particularly distressed by an incident they had witnessed in a rural mountain area. They had seen peasants lined up and sprayed for lice like one might treat cattle. Rojo recounted: "We left the ministry unable to erase from our minds the sight of hundreds of vermin-infested Indians being doused by a bureacrat with the same method used on farm animals in the suburbs of Buenos Aires. Standing in the street before a statue of Bolivar, Guevara summed up his feelings: 'The question is one of fighting the causes and not just the effects. This revolution is bound to fail if it doesn't succeed in reaching deep inside them, stirring them right down to the bone, and giving them back their stature as human beings. Otherwise, what's the use?'" The other story that comes to my mind is set ten years later, when Che was Cuba's Minister of Industry. In Che's own words:
'"I'll tell you one thing, when I visit a factory I systematically encounter a large number of criticisms of all kinds. Some of these criticisms really indicate there is something in the apparatus as a whole that has to be corrected. In one visit to a shoe factory in Matanzas, a worker told me, 'Look how I'm covered with dust. I told them I needed a fan, some way of fixing this problem, or else I'll have to change jobs. Look at me. My asthma is killing me.'" As a fellow asthmatic, Che certainly empathized with the man. He took the grievance to the head of the factory: "I spoke to the head of the factory and said to him: 'Hey, take a look at this poor fellow. These things cause asthma. A man with asthma can't stay where there's dust like this around. This is barbaric. It can't continue.'But he can't change jobs.' 'Well, either change his job or get him a fan..' 'But the thing is, he doesn't really have asthma; he's got tuberculosis.' How on earth could something like this happen? What a lack of human sensitivity!"
Even as a bureacrat, Che never lost the human touch, his ability to be outraged. As Castro began to sell the revolution out to a Soviet-subsidized paternalism, Che still sought to instill the revolution in the hearts and minds of the Cuban people. When that conflict came to a head in 1965, took took the honorable way out. He resigned as Economic Minister and announced that he was going to spend the next five years managing a factory. He was willing to take this demotion rather than have a damaging public falling-out with Castro. In a letter, Che's mother Celia chided her son for taking this step down, and wryly suggested that fellow socialists Nkrume, in Ghana, and Ben Bella, in Algeria, could use his Internationalist services. After his resignation from the Ministry of Insdustries, Che mysteriously disappeared, rather than taking over the factory. It was rumoured variously that he had died or that he was helping with a socialist insurrection in the Congo, which turned out to be true. After a couple of years of speculation, the world learned where Che was: he had returned to the Bolivia he had left a decade before. He and some Cuban military officers were going to aid the fledgling insurrection. The rebel group was quickly located and the US-trained Bolivian Rangers hunted them down. Most of the men and women in the bodly out-numbered and out-gunned group were quickly killed or captured. Che and a Bolivan miner/guerilla (ironically named Simon Cuba) were cut off from the group and surrounded. Che was badly wounded and Cuba fought ferociously to save Che from capture. Cuba was killed and Guevera taken into custody. The next day two Bolivian officers walked into the small house he was held in and gunned him down.
It is impossible to say what would have happened if things had gone another way; if Castro had listened to Che. What is certain is that Castro's short-sighted and often foolish economic policies have left Cuba in ruins. The industrialization Che championed never happened, as Castro pushed continued sugar production, so that Cuba could exhange the sugar for Soviet petroleum or sell it to them at inflated prices. Che had wanted to allow small businesses; he understood that this increased the number of consumer goods available to people and soaked up excess currency, preventing inflation.
Castro finally allowed this until the last couple of years. Perhaps Che's policies would have failed as well. We'll never know. But what is certain is that wherever he went, Che had faith in people. While Castro wants to be the godfather, the patron of the Cuban people, Che lived-- and died-- to be the servant of the people. He was a rare bird: a pragmatic idealist. He fought for a revolution where people find not merely the economic heaven-on-earth that Marxism promised, but the self-fulfillment, empowerment and humanity that struggling for control of one's destiny brings. I think of the men in the American civil rights marches who would wear the placard "I Am A Man." In the struggle for liberation, people find some sense of self in the act itself, whether successful or not. From the AA meeting to the overthrow of a dictatorship, and everything in between, struggling for control of our lives makes us more of a person. In the unfinished history of this planet, of our peoples, Che Guevara was a beauty. Like Camus' Sisyphus, struggling vainly with the rock, showing that he is greater than the fate dealt to him, Che moved through his life seeking, and I suspect finding, his humanity in the struggle of liberating his fellow man. Vaya con dios, Che. No te nunca olvidaremos.

Internet has a such freedom sometimes government can not control it. In Internet there are web sites which have big capacities for use such as google, yahoo, e-bay, some of their bad sides makes people and government feel uncomfortable in some ways. So why are the governments are not prepared to stop the influence of misusages at Internet?

Because Internet is free and ease technology everybody have same access to use it. In these days parents are concerned of their kids using and reading about pornographic and criminal web papers. In some situations criminal videos on internet gives opportunities to people to do some pernicious things. From other side people effecting their health and wasting their time by using internet chat services, everybody can meet somebody who could be dangerous. Other dangerous thing on Internet is fraud when people make shopping on Internet some hackers can steal their card details and use them for themselves. In some countries there are special religious web sites which calls young people to serve their religion but this sites are being organised by some organisations to make people to serve them by using religion in the future they call these young people to do their dirty works and saying it is important for religion.

Internet is the way to communicate for people who are known as criminals. One of the other bad side of Internet is for students who are copying their homeworks from certain Internet sites and it keeps to effect their future in a bad ways. Internet is useful for banks also but at the same time it helps to steal banks’ money and it keeps improving. Despite the development of computer technology it is almost impossible to stop Internet’s biggest threat which is known as the virus, and it damages companies, people and governments in a huge way. Piracy is another problem that people are trying to solve everybody can download music and movies from Internet for free and that damages the movie and company labels’ finance.

Every threat’s reason on Internet is the freedom given to it. Government should put some restrictions to Internet or organise special systems to stop half of it’s threats because it is impossible to stop all of it, as in Chine they put special programmes to stop the search of some sites in Google and other search machines. At the same time they should make special Internet policies to put ban people who makes bad or dangerous web sites. Governments can put huge amount of taxes to people who are making or using illegal and dangerous web sites. If they do that domainers and user’s number will decrease.

President Aliyev: "Azerbaijan may stop importing gas from Russia"

Azerbaijan's president said Saturday the country may stop importing natural gas from Russia.

In an interview with the Russian radio station Ekho Moskvy, Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan "may reshape its energy balance by switching over from [a combination of] fuel oil and gas to fuel oil."
Aliyev's comments came amid stalled talks over Russia's new gas price for its South Caucasus neighbor.
Azerbaijan and other post-Soviet countries have until now been buying natural gas from Russia at preferential prices, but Russian gas monopoly Gazprom is set to raise the rates to the Western European level as of 2007.
The state-controlled energy giant said it could supply 1.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Azerbaijan next year - half the amount requested - charging $230 per 1,000 cubic meters. The current price is $110.
Azerbaijani officials dismissed the new price as unfair, and have been trying to negotiate a compromise deal with Gazprom.
Azerbaijan is rich in oil, but the Caspian nation's domestic gas production, totaling an estimated 4-5 billion cubic meters per year, covers less than a half of its needs.
Aliyev said Russia has raised the gas price for Azerbaijan to cash in on his country's shortages. He described the move as "unsavory" and contradicting "the spirit and the essence of Azerbaijani-Russian relations," but said the issue should not be politicized.
Azerbaijan uses natural gas to produce electricity, and its refusal to source gas from Russia will necessitate cuts on the amount of Caspian oil pumped to the Russian port of Novorossiisk.
"We have no alternative [to the cuts] as our electric power plants need fuel to keep going," Aliyev said.

5 Steps to a Successful Blog Post

Browsing around online, I have come across many blogs and taken note of their unique writing styles and formats. Many of these blogs had horrible readability for a number of reasons other than design. This post sums up some of the easy steps I try to follow to ensure improved readability on my blog. These steps assume that your content is good. Granted if you follow all of these steps but have pointless content, you can’t expect much.

A Solid Introduction Paragraph
Whenever I have an idea for a post, the absolute first thing I concentrate on is the introduction paragraph. If I can’t get a good intro paragraph out the door, the post won’t get published. A successful introduction captures your readers’ attention and encourages them to continue reading. A great introduction also gives your readers something good to quote if they decide to link to your article, or even submit it to a social bookmarking site.
Speaking of paragraphs, breaking up your content into more digestible chunks can help with readability. However, you only want to be breaking things up into paragraphs where applicable: ie, not in the middle of explaining the specifications of your new computer.

Visual Elements
Whenever and wherever possible, I try to add a visual element within my posts to elaborate on the discussion at hand. It helps take out some of the guess work to comprehend what I’m saying. A screenshot of what something should look like, an image demonstrating a certain Photoshop technique, or an image of that new gadget add greatly to the value of your post. However, everything should be within reason — too many images can mangle your flow of content and be detrimental.

Structure
Now that you’re in the meat of the actual post, creating some structure to what you are going to be talking about is vital. By structure I mean methods of organizing your content into easily distinguishable sections. Things like headings to introduce new elements and bulleted lists can make a huge improvement in the readability of your posts. In addition, highlighting key pieces of your article through the use of bold type or emphasizing words through italics let your readers know where to focus and is handy for those skimming.

Using Line-Height and Font Sizes to Boost Readability
My absolute number one pet peeve of most blogs these days is the use of hard-to-read line-height attributes and font sizes. Some spacing between lines is a must. The CSS attribute line-height controls this aspect and can easily be added to stylesheet. It also helps if the font is larger than 10 pixels (point). If I get annoyed just trying to read your posts, chances are I won’t be coming back and will stay behind the safety of my RSS aggregator.

Links & Block Quotes
The last things to think about before publishing your post deal with adding links and using block quotes where relevant. Both can add context to each post and don’t require much effort on your part.

So what was the fate of Tara Conner this morning? Well maybe 20 dollars will jog my memory ... oh wait, that’s not gonna work is it. Damn. I could have really used 20 bucks. Anyway, Donald Trump - who owns the Miss USA pageant - announced this morning that Tara will keep her title as Miss USA despite rumors of drug use, underage drinking and sexual misconduct. Trump said:

"She's agreed to go into rehab. She knows that if she makes even the
slightest mistake from here on, she will be immediately replaced. I
believe she can do a tremendous service to young people."

Conner then took the stage and thanked Trump for the second chance:

"In no way did I think it would be possible for a second chance to be given to
me. I've had a very big blessing bestowed on me. It truly takes someone
